Are you talking personal or legal currency?

As far as legal currency, it doesn't matter. You will do all the approaches and stuff in the sim before the checkride and the checkride will bring up to currency anyway.

If you're talking personal, then try to hit a sim or something at a flight school before you go. But, if you're retiring as a C-12 pilot then you should be able to hold your own in class against a 20 year old who has only been flying a year or two.
