Most regionals are not hurting for FOs or FO candidates currently but many are parking aircraft for want of CAs to fly them. Right now more CAs is their goal. They aren't going to spend the money on upgrade training just so they can fail yiu and keep you around as a senior FO who is necessarily using some of the limited CA availability for another six months that could be getting a more junior FO upgrade eligible.
