Military leave is treated the same way. Drop a 10 day because of 3 days of mil conflict, the footprint of the original trip is still blocked. I'm pretty sure this is meant to prevent abuses.
You can bet that senior wolfpackers would intentionally stay unvaxxed (or lie about it), bid the trips intentionally, and then proceed to decimate the good open time trips thus screwing people with training/carry-in conflicts/VTO lines.
That's why we can't have nice things.
