I don't think the door is unique to the max. In fact I think the Delta 900's have the door and might well be grounded for inspections shortly.
We've been operating the NG 900 for roughly 10 years with not a single plug door problem. Alaska also operates the 900 but only elected to ground the MAX9 so that tells me the aren't worried about the NGs. We may do inspections but over time which wouldn't require a grounding.
