If JBLU feels good the merger is getting approved, you want leadership ready to go from day 1, you don’t wait for it to get approved and then Robin says “I’m out”
And there is no guarantee a decision comes out tomorrow, this week, this month etc. This is a management group that waited months for a delayed NEA decision, I don’t assume Robin wants to hang out waiting for that, when he won’t be staying around anyways.
My opinion: Joana is a Lawyer, she was very involved with the Acquisition/Merger, Robin's health is not great. The merger is very likely going to be approved and Robin knew he was going to step down soon anyway for health reasons; what better way for the outgoing CEO and BoD to facilitate the change. New CEO, new airline, new management. Robin even said he's staying to facilitate the handoff, that will be well after the DOJ decision before he actually leaves. It's a smart move by Robin and the Board.
