Anyone who says this has almost assuredly never lacked representation in life. People both notice and care. I've seen people noticeably excited getting off an airplane to see their [race, sex, etc] represented by their pilots. It matters. Just because you've never felt that doesn't mean others don't.

The default assumption by the flying public is that any of us are the best people for the job, and yet for some reason we can't even extend that courtesy to some of our colleagues.
