No race and sex don't matter regarding safety. Maybe that matters to your circle of friends, but it doesn't matter to most people regarding safety.
Again way off base.
This is an absolutely textbook example of a strawman argument. Well done.

Show me once where I said, or even implied, race and sex matter when it comes to safety. What I did say is people, especially demographics that are under-represented in a given environment, notice when they see people who look like them in places where they're not used to seeing them.

I'll say it again, if you don't understand the value and importance of feeling represented in society, it's not something you've ever had to worry about. Tell the young black man who sees a black pilot or the young girl who sees a female pilot those things don't matter when the overwhelming majority of interactions they've had are with people who don't look like them. If that doesn't resonate with you, then it doesn't apply to you. Be grateful for that. It doesn't make it less valid.

You seem hell-bent on making the assertion that there are pilots out there who are less safe and were hired for other than their qualifications. If you're going to make the assertion, just make it instead of tiptoeing around it by saying we need to hire the "most qualified people." Is it your contention that we (or other airlines) have hired people who aren't qualified save for their demographics and represent a threat to safety? That's a pretty big claim and would certainly be of interest to any of us if you had any data to back it up. Do you? Out of curiosity, do you apply the same level of scrutiny to legacy hires? To non "diversity hires?"

Is the goal of seeking out a more diverse pilot group that is more broadly representative of the demographics of our country not compatible with a culture of safety? The only way that could be true is if you believe that certain demographics are intrinsically less safe.

If what you take away from DEI is it demonizes white males, you have a severe case of Main Character Syndrome. Look around. Look at new hire classes. You're not being replaced any time soon. It takes a special person to be threatened at the prospect of seeing their demographic shift from ~95% to some small number less than that.
