My advice is to enjoy your 20s, do all those things you can do with Spirt QOL, and then re-evaluate in a few years. Spirit will probably be doing fine by then.
He can re-evaluate in a couple of years by which time he'd be doing decently at AA. At that point, if he realizes he should have gone to AA, the ship not only has sailed but it's over the horizon and out of sight.
