Thats not the point.
Some people were still taking unpaid leaves in Jan and Feb. That’s fine. They are taking a pay hit at no one else’s ability to make more/less.
Now, in order to give 147 pilots 40 hrs to stay home, the union has capped about 500-600 pilots the ability to make any extra money above reserve guarantee.
In this day of staffing, any trip could be covered by a reserve pilot on their reserve days on. So when a pilot picks up on a reserve day off, it costs the company that extra money. Because that trip could have been left alone and covered by a reserve on their RSV days, already baked in their cost of paying 75-79 hrs on reserve. By killing this ability, it opens up funds to pay people 40 hrs to stay home. It’s a robbing Paul to pay Peter kind of move. Because a reserve picking up on their day off doesn’t affect a senior pilot. But this move now caps the earning ability of 500-600 pilots so that ~150 can get partial pay to stay home.
Nearly 4 yrs ago around April 2020, the company killed the Rsv pickup MOU because of Covid. We got it back in the new contract. Now, the union has killed this ability for ANY month going forward that has an EIL.
Sorry, but I think it’s wrong.
