Understand things change rapidly here and with short or no notice. More bells and whistles in a good way for the triple and its birth date is decades after the 74. Although the 747-400 was a good leap the 777 is five years younger. The 747-800 was an update or cleanup if you will. Engines, wings, capacity, electronic checklist and minor adjustments up front, etc., but no longer being produced at this time. 747 fleet as a whole (plenty more 400s) is an older fleet by far and we keep getting new shiny triples if that answers your question. Comfort wise I prefer the 74, but the triple guys can chime in and tell you more about their cool stuff. Sorry for the drag out just bored and I need to get back on the road.
I was actually sad to see Boeing discontinue building the 74. I actually got a little depressed, sad to say lol. That airplane will always be a true LEGEND and its legacy is unmatched. I really hope they will maybe reconsider building it in the future, but that may be wishful thinking as the demand just wasn’t really there anymore for it, even the newer -8. Is atlas planning to keep their 74’s for many years to come or are they planning to eventually retire those sooner than expected?
