This entire thread is only a debate because the OP would be driving to work at SWA verse commute by air. He will no doubt look back in 10 years and kick
himself for retreating to SWA when all his buddies over at AA are flying 6 legs a month on the Widebody averaging 20 days off, dozing for dollars, all at significantly higher pay rates.
I have no shame to admit I was denied by UA first try, hired second time. Hired at delta but turned it down. Southwest, post contract, is not an afterthought. Equal NB pay, retirement, and benefits along with better schedule flexibility and work rules. We don’t fly wide bodies or get crew meals. Isn’t a deal breaker for a lot of people. As for the culture, no one who actually flies for Southwest goes around bragging about how great everything is. Most will admit it’s gone downhill since Herb’s passing. However, I do believe Southwest has the most humble, friendly, and down to earth pilot group. One thing Southwest has done consistently well is hire good PEOPLE. That’s not to say AA DL and UA haven’t. But Southwest is a solid place to work where you can make an absolute killing while flying airplanes with cool people.
