Common misconception that a family necessarily makes GUM a deal-breaker. Plenty of people quite happily do GUM w/ families- it all depends on how adventurous the family is.

It’s definitely not for everyone but it’s great for some. Having the option is a nice little perk of this airline for those who want to take advantage of it, & as far as I know, no one’s been forced to lock into the base since the old CAL days so it remains that- an option.
