I believe what "O" said in rgs this week, was they wanted to be fat "in the right" widebodies to prepare for the 777 bid this winter....with the rest still sitting in the low paying seats.
If a vast majority of those being excessed bid a particular plane --- i.e. the MD-11 over the Bus --- then they'd need an excess in that jet to balance things back out.
They are still looking to plus up the widebodies with this bid --- but just do it relatively evenly.
