As I've been raised to understand it (for whatever its worth), the spirit of the American way of life was (mostly) unrestricted liberty in terms of personal property, with the Feds taking the role of gatekeeper for any would-be tyrants that might arise from said unrestricted liberty. And then, in turn, we the people held the duty to gatekeep the Fed if it became a tyrant itself.
Now with any system, it requires its components to actually do thier job. Does it feel like anyone is doing their job?
