They would have to be on a dedicated route in a dedicated base and that would never happen. Not being able to reroute pilots at will would be crippling.

I disagree. Look at BWI for instance. You could put a few a220's in there and use them for the shorter shuttle service on all the destinations that have like 4-6 flights per day...Like PVD, MHT, BDL, ALB, SYR, ROC, PIT, ORF, RDU, BNA, etc.
