Everyone makes choices in their lives. If some choose to exercise their airman's certificate for less pay than others, so be it. That doesn't make hand flying very large jets into and out of risky airports smart. As for the PM or NFP having to work hard, that's not really the point. The point is that with both pilots spending more time as monitors, the chances of something being done wrong by the crew is less likely. But feel free to continue to hand fly as much as you like. With the Captains permission, of course.
You missed the point. It's not about choosing to exercise their certificate for less money than others. It was a route to get where others are, like YOU.
There was a time in YOUR career where you had to hand fly, right? I mean, I hear old geezers rant all the time about "you nintendo pilot kids today have no pilot skills, what are you going to do when all the stuff breaks? Back in my day blah blah blah....."
