Read the section with the heading "Diversified carrier strategy". There is another article out there somewhere (can't think of the exact quote that would locate it) in which the program manager says straight up that they like having multiple carriers so that if one acts up, they can just shift they flying to the others.
It's a good bet that if Amazon decides to grow their A330 fleet beyond the 10 they currently have pointed at Hawaiian (and I have my doubts about Alaska-Hawaiian continuing to fly for Amazon beyond the merger), there will be other operators involved. ATSGIBX can be ready in a year. They just need a customer to sign on the line.
Fedex would do this with the feeders. If you need to slap one on the wrist, you transfer some flying to another. It's not easy to make big sweeping changes at once, but you can switch enough flying to get your point across.
