Their arguments in court for the merger didn't do them any favors and then filing for the appeal and then shortly pulling the plug afterward was in my opinion a half-assed effort on their part to fight for the merger.

Bottomline, Spirit management is to blame for the position that Spirit is in today, having to rely on a merger to bail them out. It is unfortunate too.
JetBlue tried, the DOJ blocked it, they went to court, lost, appealed, and then decided that NK at its current value wasn't worth the significant multiple they were paying for it. It wasn't cold feet, it was a smart business decision.
