If I'm not mistaken, there is an abundance of case-law precedent preventing the exact kind of indentured servitude that BL is trying to institute over there. It is extremely difficult to come after employees for OJT costs, which is what airline training is.
Coming from the era when training contracts were common and routine, it is very much legal. It’s a matter of how much the company wants to enforce it. Some used it to scare people into staying, some went full on commando going after pilots who broke it without paying. I’m guessing BB will be the later. Sad to see it happen here.
