One of my pilots told me a story that he went on leave from Germany back to the States and checked a rack of German Beer. Didn't pack it, wrap it, protect it, or do anything to it except attach a bag tag to it. Not only did it make the trip with out a bag smasher taking a bottle, but customs had no problem letting him through. Most guys would pack them in kit bags (two racks fit in one aviator kit bag) and stuff their clothes around the bottles. Apparently not necessary.
