I had something like that come up once. On the phone with family during an emergency while on cancellation makeup, at the same time on the other line is scheduling trying to give me a trip. I was definitley not fit for duty at that moment so I called off for it, and pretty much immediately sent an email to the BCP explaining the situation. It was a non issue.
Of course, I was well past probation by then. I get that you'd want to be careful with this.
I did look up the sick deducted is 2.5 not 3.5 for a day of reserve happy to be wrong about that but it's not something I spend a lot of time thinking about. If I'm sick I am sick. That's why I'll call out if I'm feeling under the weather and it's looking iffy for the following day. Rather than after a trip has been assigned. If you do it is pretty much an automatic follow up from a BCP.
It's not like it's some kind bonus to be a reserve pilot. You can call out sick from a lot of trips before you get some kind of contact from the BCP vs once on reserve.
