Don’t be so sure the 330’s are going away. It sounds like HA and AK are working on plans to refresh the 330 interior to match the 787. They wouldn’t spend the money on aircraft that are going away any time soon.
The 787’s will mostly be diverted to Alaska after the merger is approved. It sounds like Alaska is outsourcing 18-20 787’s worth of pax everyday to other carriers via One World.
Economies of scale says if they operate 330s at all it will be at scale. That argument holds particularly if they spend the money to refurbish them. But can they be reconfigured to look anything like the 787? Probably not.
