Me too, if we have everything we need then I get Clearance -> Brief -> Preflight Checklist done at D30. I notice a lot of FOs at all seniority levels instinctively start reaching for the checklist right as I'm calling for it at the end of the brief so I assume it's the most common thing. 90% of Captains did it that way when I was an FO as well. A few that didn't had their own trigger for when to run it but many times it just ended up being a cluster with the door closing, the push crew telling us they're ready and us realizing we forgot to run it. I'm still a relatively new Captain in the "what am I forgetting?" phase so I like having the time to think about everything that's happening after the briefs and checklists are out of the way. I don't really have time for PED usage except for maybe looking at Google Maps to show the FO where I was thinking of eating at the overnight. I do agree that I would prefer the FOM verbiage be changed to prohibit PEDs from the pushback checklist instead.
