Appreciate that you’re more sanguine about this than I am, but everyone has different thresholds for their pitchfork safe. Allow me an example to show why this is a huge freaking deal:
Take a purely hypothetical SEA 330 A. He bids reserve with a day off block at the end of the month. He’s super senior so he gets 1 GS a month. Because no SEA 330 trips release precisely at 1500 hours Pacific time, every single GS he gets results in a PR.
Because he has no LC days left that month, his PR becomes a banked PB day due to long long long standing company practice and black and white language in the SRH which carries the company’s imprimatur.
Now for some very rough math. He makes what, 400 an hour? He can very easily wash those days for an ICN trip for over 12 hrs a day no matter the coverage. That results in 12 PR to PB days a year. 12 hrs x 12 PR days x 400 an hour is about $60,000.
If the company came to you and said they were going to take 60K from you, or more likely simply did it without notifying you, would you really keep your pitchfork locked up? Not a single torch? Good for you if true but understand why people are upset.
