Delta THINKS they are pretty hot stuff....not really a noticable difference in economy.

I totally agree. Eighty percent of Delta's reputation as a "premium airline" is due to the fact they have convinced everyone that they are through effective marketing (which they deserve credit for, it's incredibly impressive).
Delta does "express service" on flights of less than 450nm (I believe that is the cutoff, it's approximate at least). From a NY airport to DTW, you could get the choice of water, coffee or tea. Can't even get a soda...
