BTW, I would rather layover in downtown SFO than LAX. My last layover in LAX was the only time I was nervous venturing out more than a block or two from the hotel at night. I was shocked by the number of homeless, and I do quite a bit of west coast flying.
I wanted something different the last time I was there and ended up at the Owl. Higher end business people, locals, and international visitors staying at the hostel nearby. A fair price, too. I'll happy go back.
Yes, SF smells of weed and you have to look down when walking. That part sucks. The food and drink options are decent though. Just don't park a car on the street. Guy at the Owl told me his was busted into 4 times in the last 6 months.
