Yup, I hear ya. I have no problem buying tickets/ using miles / paying for hotels, to get to work. What I'm mostly focused on is trying to understand how to pick up reserve trips so I'm not sitting around in a hotel unused. I like flying; I just don't like sitting in a hotel for 5 days. The info in this thread has been excellent.
I'm also learning more about what is considered a reasonable attempt to get to work. At first I thought it was the commuter policy (which I think is very fair and reasonable.) However I now understand that policy doesn't apply to probies like myself. It's good information to have and I will plan accordingly.
Hopefully we have a big vacancy bid soon though!
I was a little shocked too when I found out that the commuter policy doesn’t technically extend to probies. I’ve made it work thus far tho and so does everyone else. I know you’ll make it work. Luckily, this isn’t a carrier with limited flying. On a 5 day stretch, I was utilized 4 of the 5 days (if you include a SC conversation). I’m lucky that I get to sit LSR from home, makes reserve just a bit more bearable imo
