Comparing that situation to adding the larger 350-1000, which is roughly 777-8 in size, Delta keeps commonality. This spreads out the cost of operating a smaller fleet of planes.
That was the issue with the 777. Fleet of 18, roughly half ER and half LR, very different engines, neither of which could be done in house. The a330neo and a350 Trent's can all be done by tech ops. Major cost savings.
