As an aside, the 717 isn't a B-scale, it's a much smaller airplane and as such pays lower rates than the other aircraft. We followed Delta's rates(-6%... which became -9%, so the whole pay structure at Hawaiian could be considered a B-scale). For whatever reason Delta decided to pay the 717 less than even the A220, so we got stuck with that rate.
As a Delta 717 guy I can explain what's been told to me... huge swing and a miss on behalf of our NC. Apparently the 717's were supposed to be gone around mid 2020's so the NC decided it wasn't worth wasting negotiating capital on a fleet that wasn't going to stick around. I also heard from a rep that the 717 wasn't "as capable" whatever the heck that means as the 220 so they gave it a lesser paying rate. The ironic part is with all the PW/Airbus delays on the 220 the 717 ends up filling in at times for those routes. Seating capacity is identical between the 717 and 220-100 but the pay is roughly $5/hr difference which really adds up over time. Hopefully this is corrected on the next contract.
