As a Delta 717 guy I can explain what's been told to me... huge swing and a miss on behalf of our NC. Apparently the 717's were supposed to be gone around mid 2020's so the NC decided it wasn't worth wasting negotiating capital on a fleet that wasn't going to stick around. I also heard from a rep that the 717 wasn't "as capable" whatever the heck that means as the 220 so they gave it a lesser paying rate. The ironic part is with all the PW/Airbus delays on the 220 the 717 ends up filling in at times for those routes. Seating capacity is identical between the 717 and 220-100 but the pay is roughly $5/hr difference which really adds up over time. Hopefully this is corrected on the next contract.
Appreciate the insight. Although 60% duty and landing credits are nice, it doesn’t help pilots on reserve or those or otherwise assigned the B717. Hopefully the JCBA will pay band (narrow body vs wide body) to avoid the argument that certain aircraft will be “phased out” anyways, mentality. It cost B767 pilots in the past at HAL. Just a thought.
