DL pilot recruiting has always said this explicitly. One such example was in a video that Captain Holmes put out when he was head of hiring. He specifically said Delta Pilot Selection loved the requirement, said it was a valuable metric for predicting future success, and is just something that’s part of the Delta hiring culture.
Obviously those principles were compromised when they needed every warm body they can get.
I doubt they will ever require a degree again. The flow with Endeavor ties their hands. Having said that you are going to need to have a stunning resume outside of the degree to get hired without it. Keep in mind Delta tracks training performance and targets hiring to success of prior applicants in training.
