Go read the Instructor council newsletter, published yesterday. It’s ominous

“many SLIs [are being] involuntarily removed from their SLI positions starting September 17, 2024.”

“With this being such a large announcement“

“management feels we are at least 10
percent overstaffed based on the projected training demand.”

” projected training for 2025 appears to be heavily frontloaded again”

Furthermore, the ALPA update today says:

“This week, Flight Operations announced it plans to reduce the number of SLls in the Training Department as part of an overall staffing reduction.”

Not sure if the bold is limited to just the training department, but that’s not remotely consistent with hiring 1000+. This is a big change. That statement is far more consistent with the APD (via LCP) rumor mill of 300 next year.

It sure would be nice for Flt Ops to share this information with us line pilots, like in the Base Visits or Fall Flight Standards meetings. Or both.
