IIRC there is a regulator valve which *should* automatically limit pressure to 1000psi. The limitation is just so the pilots know to verify it works. Maybe it didn't work.
Pilot has to limit pressure to 1000 psi while the other guy calls out where the gauge is "800 psi give it more" or "right there's your 1000"
