Yes they likely won't award all of them or even half of them but it shows a state of significant overstaffing company wide during what is supposed to be a busy month, especially with a late thanksgiving spilling into the first week of December. All of Which indicates no hiring for a while, which was the topic of this thread, which is what I said.
Because all that matters is how many they actually award. The number offered could be 4000, but if they only award 300 it doesnt matter. I just tried looking at the crew planning site to see the historical actual versus awarded, but it seems they dont keep an archive.
We all know we are running fat right now, but it's temporary. These VIL's are saving the company money. In my opinion, the more the merrier! The more VIL's people take the more money it saves the company, and just maybe, the lesser chance of drastic staffing changes and downgrades. You can read into it however you want, but it's very much emotionally based and not on fact.
