Another "standardization" thing. Why does the 737 not activate second autopilot on approach for backup on the go around but the A320 fleet does? Never understood that on the 737.
I don't think there is any prohibition against arming the second autopilot. I have flown with a couple people who do. The only issue it introduces is all the exta trim it adds in for the flare, but if you disconnect before that then obviously no issue.
