the problem with bean counters is that they don’t have a spreadsheet calculation for the benefits of employee goodwill…so they don’t want to accept an associated cost to nurture it.

I suspect the union just shakes their heads sadly and throws up their arms at the many things pilots do to undercut themselves.
I'd think they should have done something about that before it go to that point.
