b. afford the pilot accepting the award the reporting time ability of a short call reserve pilot.
at a very data driven company, say they get most short call pilots to report for their rotations in 1 hour.
now beernutt gets a short notice greenie on ARCOS with a report of an hour. Beernutt doesn’t use the gray area and say “I’ll get there as soon as I can.” Beernutt says “it’ll take me 2 hours accounting for traffic.”
company says to beernutt, we will move on to the next pilot because you have exceeded our data-driven and analyzed “short call ability of a reserve pilot” which is typically 1 hour. Since there is no defined time no pay is due. Beernutt submits to union and union is unsuccessful in pursuing pay due to the company successfully arguing that the ability of short call pilots is by and large 1 hour while beernutt said they needed 2.
Just for clarity, this is true, but only for reserve. CS burned me on this exact thing once, and I lost the GS with no recourse - it won't happen again. If the company laments any future ignored phone calls asking "what time will you arrive", they need to look in the mirror. Fool me once...
A Regular pilot is
guaranteed single pay, however. They
can remove you for company convenience, but you still get single pay.
