Yes and no. All of those airlines were dinosaurs that struggled to adapt to deregulation. And they were also gone before bankruptcy rules were reformed. It's a lot harder to just shut it down and liquidate now under the new rules.

Dinosaurs? Eastern was the largest carrier for years and didn’t struggle with deregulation. They struggled with horrible management and Francisco Lorenzo. Maybe buy a book and read Grounded: The story of Eastern Airlines and see that CAL and Lorenzo destroyed EAL. Lorenzo raped EAL of assets that he transferred to the scab operation at CAL.
Braniff over expanded….and was done in by the larger AA matching their cheap fares. Sound familiar?
