OOBWS is the inevitable outcome of a pilot group that manifestly embraces a commuting lifestyle. Junior pilots “rolling thunder” was a historical anomaly. Wasn’t going to last.
While I personally find commuting antithetical to a “balanced lifestyle”, a huge portion of the pilots here don’t. I respect that.
OOBWS are a crucial part of that lifestyle choice. (“Will I fly LAX, SEA, or SLC today?” A significant ration of SH for that..gotta commute, get hotels, etc.)
You can’t have widespread commuting (a high “pro” for MANY) without OOBWS.
No one cares about your GS “losses”. Delta isn’t a piggybank.
No senior pilot owes you anything.
(Don’t like it? Run for office and strip commuters of their OOBWS privileges. Good luck.)
