I'd say that's a hyperbolic description of what they're saying. Your interpretation says more about you than about ALPA comms. You use a lot of judgement words there... Do you think I have a salary? Do you think my BES and hourly pay rate are because I'm 'fortunate'? And you're just a poor, misunderstood sa sack being held back due to some misfortune? And who said anything about a dire need?
I guess you're voting based on emotion and the feeling of being aggrieved? Don't worry though, all of your misfortune will fade with time (AKA seniority).
