I flew with a very nice senior CA one time. He wasn't a big talker so I was fiddling with my schedule (company approved per our check pilots) and noticed he was kind of staring at me or what I was doing on my EFB but not saying anything. I could tell he seemed interested but maybe didn't want to ask what I was doing. I clicked around and checked his schedule and noticed he had simply flown his original assigned line the entire year. This guy was senior enough he could do almost anything he liked, probably could have added 20-30% to his pay while working less, but nope he flew his line without a single change as far back as I could see. So being a meddler, I went back to my own schedule, found a nifty trade and made kind of a big deal about it. I showed him what I had, showed him the trade, and asked his opinion if I should do it (that's about as subtle as I get, sorry). He looked at it, said yes and expressed interest since I'd kind of opened up the topic, but he didn't seem to know anything about our primary trading system. Nothing at all. Kind of like opening a time capsule from before the internet and finding a person in there looking for a printed bus schedule.

Anyhow, 30 minutes later I'd given him the tour of our online trading system and walked him through a couple simple trades on my schedule. I sure hope he tried it out himself, because it seemed like he'd missed literally years of changes in our contract and scheduling processes and was just going along with whatever line he got simply because he didn't realize how easy it was to make little changes.

I suspect he may have had bad experiences with some of our more aggressive trading pilots and didn't want to get caught up in all of that, so he just never figured out how to adjust his own schedule. He was super nice, just seemed to have completely missed the memo on what we can do with our schedules online with a few clicks.
