Yes this is America. Bad things happen literally all the time. You can be a victim of a senseless act of violence simply by walking down the street, going to a grocery store, shopping at a Walmart or picking your kids up at school. Use your situational awareness and best judgement and hope for the best.
Draw a 5 block radius around any of our hotels, downtown or otherwise and tell me how many of them are free from homeless or assaults?
Defeatiest attitude. Yes crime can happen anywhere, but it happens MUCH more frequently in certain areas. Pretty easy for hotel committees to determine where the safer parts of town are and move the layovers there while still providing amenities.
