Obviously it was a visual but does SOP make the PM change the runway in the FMS? I'm just wondering if one of the crew was heads down in that turn changing things and that might have reduced the eyes out for at least a few seconds. DCA is a fun approach but night and visual and gusty and busy makes it a be on your game time.
Technique only but I would pre-load the RW33 visual in the box and execute if given it, cancel if not.
Only thing different about their ground track that I noticed is they went way inland - when I was doing these a decade ago we'd hug the east shoreline of the river and make it a lot tighter. Not that it would have changed the outcome in this case (who knows) but just something I noticed about what they did.
