UA made a mistake by not owning their regional. Regionals are a necessary evil.
UA is forced to contract out all their RJ flying to infamous groups like Mesa/CommuteAir because management is cheap. Hence, why UA regionals are the worst to work at.
On top of that, the UA flow is offered to non-ALPA pilots. Large slap in the face to the RJ ALPA guys that UA -contracts- to do their vast amount of RJ flying
So, to sum it up UA is the master of outsourcing domestic flying (where all airlines make bulk of their cash) and lose the benefit of having an in-house regional..
