Efforts that are worthwhile will remain, and those that are not will be eliminated, ya know, so we can keep more of our own money to say, help starving kids in LA.
Congress has been insanely irresponsible with our money for decades and now a serious effort is happening to reign it in and you're upset? They waste billions and get to say sic'em to the IRS to audit thousands a year to ensure they take your money to waste.
People will be blown away with how much money is wasted. They'll start realizing wow, if we kept that to help ourselves, maybe our bridges won't collapse, our trains won't suck, and kids' schools won't have mold and a leaky roof.
Um, yeah if we keep that $ for ourselves by cheating on our taxes then individual citizens like me will donate to fix roads, bridges, and schools...promise.
The "87,000 new agents" anti-IRS propaganda disinformation pumped your way was actually an estimate of agents needed in the next decade just to cover attrition. The agents are responsible for ensuring that tax cheats pay for the roads too, so that the rest of us don't have to cover the entire bill for them. Each agent is net positive in revenue, i.e. it's cheaper to hire them because the tax cheaters are no longer able to make the rest of us pay for their services. If you want cheaper government, you are in favor. If you are not a tax cheat, you are in favor.
You say, "Efforts that are worthwhile will remain, and those that are not will be eliminated..." Do you really think any of the demolition crew knows the difference? Who decides which "efforts" are worthwhile? 22 year old hackers? Fat cats with two yachts? No, this is the job of congress, and while not perfect is much better than "non-congress" dictatorship models presented around the globe. Made in Hungary? Made in Russia? Made in North Korea? In fact, the "socialist" state of California has a greater GDP than all three of those combined. Let's not trade in our well-established democratic processes for models that result in economic collapse.
