Using power for pitch is Navy carrier ops. In this day and age they have FBW technology which automatically maintains pitch attitude (for proper 3-wire catch) when you change the power.
Yeah.. Not everything is FBW. Power is glideslope. Pitch is AOA which is roughly airspeed.

What do I know. Just a few hundred carrier landings in non FBW aircraft.
