My new "favorite" thing Delta is doing is indicating a flight is going to leave much earlier than it actually will. Our FAs were going to be 2 hours late, but rather than post a 2 hour delay, Delta posted a 60 minute delay. Passengers then got re-booked onto our flight even though there was zero chance of them making their next connection. I tried to protest with station operations, but they said it "hurt their numbers" to make a delay longer than 60 minutes.
So no, Delta is not better than Spirit. I think the only reason Delta gets away with this is their network has more capacity and their passengers have more money. That means when my passengers missed their connection in MSP, they could get sent to other hubs to get to their final destination. And when Delta really drops the ball by planning on a crew extending their duty day, but the flight cancels late at night, most of their passengers have enough money to buy a hotel at the airport and deal with reimbursement through customer service later.
