Amongst other things you have to send a letter from your current employer confirming your resignation three weeks prior to joining. I understand that this is also required when you're on furlough.

PS: I think you're doing the right thing: Educate yourself about Dubai and Emirates as well as possible. My wife was on board after we've been to Dubai together; seeing the place is the only way of really getting an accurate impression.
