For my regional we had to practically build the plane. For my current, we had a “conversational” oral but were required to know “memory items” verbatim (and still are at each recurrent).
Are you suggesting they used to give out wings and so forth without making sure the trainee had actually earned them??
Aside from the major whoosh, the hard part is getting the job. You earn the wings getting + passing the interview. If you fail in training you should not have been at your previous job either.
