Airway Manual 4.7.1 actually gives you the requirements for allowing it.
I miscalculated the distance between EWR and ABE, thinking it was around 100 nm. It’s actually 56 nm. Technically you could get into ABE TRACON’s airspace and possibly pick up an IFR clearance without exceeding the 50 nm limit in AM 4.7.1.
Everything has to fall into place perfectly for it to be safe, legal, and practical though. I wouldn’t touch this with a 10 foot pole.
